K Town Showdown

We went to Killington yesterday for the first of this years' K Town Showdown Series events.  With temps in the teens and the wind blowing steady at over 10 mph with higher gusts, it really felt like winter.
The layout was the hardest and most progressive of the series' setups yet.  On the skiers' right lane was a urban style down rail, and then a flat rail with a donkey/ gap to flat box.  On the left lane was a long flat rail to closeout / up rail over the close out / or a raised box.  Then below was a down flat rail.

Ryan stepped to all the features, laying down a variety of tricks for the judges.  He did 2 on 2 out to the down rail, K fed on the donkey/gap box, switch on to the down rail, some nice 2's on to the down flat rail, airs over the closeout with, and a smooth fr 2 over the closeout... to name a few.

Bennie had an awesome day stepping his game up, trying 2's onto the down rail, and bailed really hard quite a few times.  He also took some rugged falls on the flat rail gap to box combo.  Most kids would've been in tears after taking the falls he took but Bennie couldn't be stopped.  Tough kid.

No podium spots, but the guys skied well and pushed themselves on some very difficult features.  A good start to the season and I'm stoked to keep it going!

Classic NE Weather

Yesterday we skied in the rain. And sleet.  And cold... But the guys made the most of it, skiing on the slushy, soft snow and having a blast, despite harsh conditions.  Penguin slides, slashes, fun tricks, and plenty of laughs made the rainy, cold morning go by too quick.

Today the sun was out, but it was very firm.  The guys were working on their butter 2's onto rails, shifty 1's, 3's with different grabs, switch (tails on) on to the rails, cork 3's, spread eagles, 2 on front swap continuing 2 out, to name a few.  It was another really fun day of skiing Carinthia.

Here's a look at some still shots from today....

What has SMS Freeskiing been up to in the past month?

We've been training in Summit County, CO. at some of the country's best early season set ups.  Copper has been home base for our Fall camps for a few years now and it's such a cool place to do so.  With an awesome halfpipe to train on at Copper, great early season parks at Key and Breck, Summit County is where its at in early winter.  Add to that Woodward at Copper's amazing facility and it's the complete on/off snow package.  We were even able to watch some of the top pros in the sport in the North Face Park and Pipe Open series Halfpipe competition at the end of our trip.

The boys got plenty of work done while we were out there, using Woodward at Copper to their advantage.  Tricks were practiced on the trampolines and snowflex/ foam pit set ups, then on snow.  Well built and well groomed features in the parks at Breck, Keystone, and Copper made for excellent opportunities to bust out these new tricks.  The guys progressed so much and I'm excited for what this season has to bring.

Since being back in So Vt the conditions over at Mt Snow have been so awesome, considering what weather conditions and temps they to work with.  Carinthia Park crew has been consistently making the best early season and regular season set ups for as long as I've been skiing and I am stoked for another awesome year!  I've got a tight crew to work with the boys are all ripping and progressing each day...

... back @ Carinthia

The conditions were... eh.
But we made the most it and the dudes were ripping Carinthia as best they could given the lack of snow due to rain and lack of cold temps.  Good to be back home and getting back into the routine.

Check out some of today's pics.

Frozen granular. Yay!

Fall Camp 2012 Concludes

It was hard to come back to So Vt after such an awesome trip!  Such a tight little crew with good dudes.  Man I love this job!  It doesn't get much better.

In conclusion, the Camp was awesome, progressive, and rewarding for not only the athletes, but myself as well.  The guys were all able to work on new tricks and be stoked about skiing and all that comes with it.  I am very proud of all the hard work put in by Seb, Bennie, Nikita, and Finn.

Heres to the season ahead!
